Description

During the RISE 'N SHINE game development project, I collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to design a multiplayer competitive mobile game centered around window-cleaning battles. My role involved creating engaging UI and art assets while conducting gameplay testing, surveys, and user interviews to refine and enhance the overall experience. This fast-paced, action-packed game challenges players to race up skyscrapers, skillfully outshine their rivals, and achieve victory through a blend of strategy and sabotage.

Tackling Transportation Gaps for College Students

Tackling Transportation Gaps for College Students

We received a very vague and general prompt:

For schools in smaller College towns, getting an Uber is not one click away but many social events, airport travel, shopping requires public or a way for private transportation. Can you imagine how to make either or both more accessible using an app?

Transportation access is a significant issue for college students, especially in smaller towns where ridesharing services are scarce.

College students, particularly those from international or out-of-state backgrounds, frequently face obstacles in navigating local transport options, organizing trips to airports, or finding transportation for social and academic events.

Overcoming Challenges: Balancing Ambitious Goals with Time Constraints

At first we expanded our customer target to 3 MAIN USER GROUPS!!!

After discussing the complexities of implementing the database system and workflows for our three main user groups—students, instructors, and parents—with my team of developers, I realized that the task is quite challenging given our time constraints.

I decided to go with Option 3:

It provides more space for Your group, allows users to see the full list by scrolling down without an extra click, which is simpler and more intuitive.

The recommended groups take less space but staying on top allows it to capture the users’ attention but not too overwhelming.

Never be afraid to take the initiative

Never be afraid to take the initiative

Stepping into a group of strangers from various universities, I took the initiative to prepare a comprehensive Meeting Agenda, set up a working timeline, and establish collaborative tools like Figma, Notion, and Drive. This proactive approach fostered a comfortable, efficient environment where everyone felt encouraged to speak up and collaborate. By setting a tone of commitment, the team quickly developed camaraderie and enthusiasm, resulting in open discussions and a productive, harmonious dynamic.

Test test test!!!

Test test test!!!

The significance of user testing became abundantly clear to me as I plunged headfirst into a whirlwind of iterations, usability tests, and even more iterations. It was an intensely addictive process, and I vividly recall the sheer joy that came with uncovering fresh insights from the users who interacted with my evolving designs.

These moments of learning from the very individuals I was designing for marked some of the most rewarding experiences throughout this project. It wasn't just about solving their problems; it was about stepping into their shoes, cultivating a profound understanding, and truly empathizing with their perspectives. In that journey of testing, I found an invaluable source of knowledge and inspiration

I used to be fixated on creating visually stunning designs, prioritizing aesthetics over functionality, which sometimes resulted in products with beautiful interfaces but limited problem-solving capabilities. However, in this project, I shifted my focus to prioritize functionality. I adopted a more effective approach, starting with low-fidelity and medium-fidelity designs.

A significant part of the credit goes to Google Material Design, which provided excellent support. It enabled me to leverage its available components during the design thinking process and develop low-fidelity iterations that were instrumental in user testing.
